3. Peter Parker - Dying Wish

It wasn't necessarily great for Peter Parker, but his 'death' in Dying Wish was a huge moment in Spider-Man lore, resulting in a ginormous change for the Spidey books of the day, temporarily ending The Amazing Spider-Man after 700 issues, and launching The Superior Spider-Man title that would run for an initial 33 issues across 18 months.

Dying Wish famously concluded with Parker being body-swapped with Doctor Octopus. And not just Doc Ock, but an Otto Octavius who was terminally ill.

Using his extensive smarts, Otto manages to pull off a plan that sees him swap consciousnesses with Peter, putting Parker's conscious into the failing body of Octavius, while Ock is transported into the fit 'n' healthy body of Spider-Man.

Pulling off this quite brilliant switcheroo, Spider-Ock got to comfort the decaying form of his Peter-housed self as he took his final breaths. For Parker, he was helpless as he awaited his own death.
