8. A Man Named Frank

Even in 1910 poor old Frank Castle couldn't catch a break. A veteran of the Cuban war who has now settled into a life as a farmer, his whole world is turned upside down when a gang of outlaws kills his family and leaves him for dead (the standard schoolboy error that all these villains seem too make).

Filled with murderous rage, he sets forth on a quest that sees him rain down great vengeance and furious anger upon those responsible, as well as a fair few people who happen to get in his way.

Created by Chuck Dixon, Jim Novak and John Buscema, 'A Man Named Frank' is a full tilt western that owes more than little to the likes of Sergio Leone's classic 'Man With No Name' trilogy, and Sam Peckinpah's Wild Bunch.

A brilliantly written story that is punctuated with sudden violent outbursts, this is a must read for anyone with a passing interest in the Spaghetti Western movies of the 1960s. Even if you've only been exposed to the genre though Red Dead Redemption, you could do a lot worse than giving this a couple of hours of your time.
