In terms of life-changing events, being sent through the entirety of human history in order to try and get back home is an undeniably massive event.

Coincidentally, it's also the exact situation that Bruce Wayne finds himself in after being sent back in time near the end of the Final Crisis series, where he tries to make his way to the present day after being sent to the past. Not only does this make for a really good comic, it also provides us with a pretty crucial event in Bruce Wayne's history - although it's weird how often the fact he's literally traveled through time is basically ignored.
