1. Vampirilla€™s Red Dental Floss

Long before Twilight tried to make vampires sparkly and sexy, there was Vampirella €“ the vampire daughter of the demon Lilith who goes around fighting monsters and hosting horror stories. Yes, although Vampirella is in fact a vampire, she fights on the side of the angels; she goes around killing evil vampires while wearing the equivalent of red dental floss for a costume. Eat your heart out, Stephanie Meyers. Designed in 1969 by Trina Robbins, one of the first female pioneers in the underground commix movement of the 1960s and '70s, Vampirilla€™s costume has remained for the most part unaltered through out the years. She has always been portrayed as wearing a red mono-kini with a Count Dracula collar around her neck. With exposed skin everywhere, Vampirilla€™s costume is the most impractical in the world for someone who is constantly doing battle with monsters€ cause, ya know, she€™ll never have to face anything that would potentially pierce her flesh. The fact that Vamprilla€™s skimpy costume is still shocking today shows just how edgy her design was back in 1969. In fact, the only reason the Comics Code Authority didn€™t come down on Vampirella is because the publisher (Warren Publishing) intentionally marketed the book as a "magazine" instead of a comic book.
