Throughout the years, Sue Storm/Richards has always endured blatant, transparent sexism (pun intended). When the Fantastic Four were exposed to cosmic radiation and given their powers, Sue was literally given the ability to disappear and let the men handle the bad guys. Well thats not completely true; made apparent by her 90s costume redesign, the Invisible Woman was also given the ability to make select elements of her clothes disappear. Either that, or one of the her kids got a hold of their mothers costumer and went to town on it with a pair of scissors. Debuted in Fantastic Four #371 (1993), Sues swimsuit cut-out costume, designed by artist Paul C. Ryan, was an attempt to update the characters image. In the issue, Sue states, I was starting to feel like an old frump in that tedious, outdated jumpsuit. Well, its obvious that they succeed this costume is by all means progressive. What editor thought that this costume would be a good idea? Its not practical by any means not to mention that it breaks about 12 laws of physics. Someone from Marvel must have been reading WAY too many Power Girl Comics. This was a blatant attempt by Marvel to make Sue arousing for teenage boys. Ironically, at the same time Sue was running around practically naked, the Thing started wearing a one-piece leotard. Double standard much?
