10 Ridiculous Ways Superheroes Were Resurrected

By Tom Baker /

9. Frankencastle

The Punisher tends to be portrayed in one of two ways: a gritty, ultraviolent vigilante who shoots first, shoots later, and then maybe asks one of two questions; or else he's placed less at odds with the rest of the superheroic Marvel Universe, positioned more as an anti-hero whose methods are frowned upon by his peers, but he never actually kills anybody. Basically it's mature readers Punisher vs comic book Punisher, and it's the latter that bore one of the most ridiculous resurrection in comic book history. And it was all, weirdly, down to Spider-Man villain Norman Osborn, who ordered Frank Castle's assassination during the Dark Reign crossover event. Wolverine's son Daken took up the call, using his metal claws to cut The Punisher to pieces. Rather than cancelling the book, however, Marvel renamed it "Frankencastle", as he was brought back to life by the vampire Morbius and his mates, the League Of Monsters. As the name suggests, the method of Frank Castle's resurrection was not unlike that of Frankenstein's monster: he was stitched back together, using his dismembered body parts and a few extra pieces, complete with bolts through the neck. Which gave him just enough time to get revenge on Daken and lend a helping hand to the persecuted League Of Monsters before the whole thing got retconned for being too silly.
