10 Things About Superman That Make No Sense
10. Superman's Electric Powers
The history of the character Superman, as a whole, is riddled with various experimentations with new-fangled powers, which were spawned with the intent of drawing more attention to this growing legend. Despite his popularity, Superman was a selling comic book character at the end of the day, and if it wasn’t his sudden death at the hands of Doomsday that was making bank, then it was the discovery of new powers.
This was certainly the case in 1997, when Superman developed new abilities, such as phasing through walls and manipulating radiation, following a devastating encounter with the villain, Sun-Eater. Regardless of these new powers, though, it was the new look that Superman was touting as well, that caught people's attention the most.
Such changes were not received well, though, and it was all the more frustrating to see how this new look affected other iterations of Superman, who were rocking the old school image until the creators were forced to change it out of continuity.
In hindsight, though, these changes were not very original in a universe that had heroes with the same kind of powers and appearance as this new version of Superman. It's basically an amalgamation of Martian Manhunter, Firestorm, and Ice.
