10 Things You Didn't Know About Spider-Gwen
10. Her Design Was Going To Be Very Different
After the idea of Gwen coming back was pitched to Marvel’s editors, Robbie Rodriguez was tasked with not only drawing her but also creating her character design. She was designed with mystery in mind while ensuring that anybody could be behind the mask. But she wasn’t always going to look like this.
Initially, Dan Slott envisioned a costume that would have been similar to the suit she wore during “The Night Gwen Stacy Died.” Except red and blue with a web pattern and a half-mask, alongside a red trench coat with webs.
Suffice to say, the final design was for the best. It has become one of the most popular cosplaying options and is part of why Spider-Gwen’s become such a memorable character in recent years, with fans particularly noting how the black in combination with the red and white of her costume makes her stand out among other Spider characters - and how it perfectly represents the type of person and superhero Gwen is supposed to be.
