3. Batman Weed Himself During Year One - Batman: The Widening Gyre

When the WhatCulture gang assembled the eighty greatest moments in the character's history, Batman Year One's "you have eaten well" speech clinched the top spot. Frank Miller and David Mazzucchelli's comic is to many the Dark Knight's most lauded story, and that moment crystallises the moment the character declares war on Gotham's criminals.

It's haunting, atmospheric, and stunning above all else. Not something you'd expect anyone to mess with, given its significance.

And yet, Kevin Smith did exactly that in Batman: The Widening Gyre. The Mallrats creator had previously done impressive work on Green Arrow at the start of the noughties, and has since gone on to helm accomplished material in the medium since. However, for some reason or another, he decided to have the Dark Knight admit that he piddled his pants during the moment depicted in Miller's opus.

There's nothing wrong with making Batman more human, but there was no need to bring an old comic into the mix to prove that point.
