10. Captain America Could (Finally) Get The Book He Deserves
Since Ed Brubaker left Captain America in 2012, the character hasn't really been given the best treatment. Rick Remender's series, while unabashedly sci-fi and classic to the core, failed to match the rich complexity of Brubaker's espionage-oriented work, and Nick Spencer's had a giant Hydra-shaped end-note to it as well.
While Mark Waid hasn't been without controversy this past year, his recent work on Daredevil with artist Chris Samnee was character-defining, and offered a bold new direction for a character that had, for a long time at least, been reluctant to step out of the shadows. It was a welcome change of pace, and with the duo having reunited for last year's Black Widow - it too met with critical acclaim - they're fast becoming one of the industry's greatest power-pairings.
Having them on Captain America, then, makes perfect sense. Faith in the star spangled man with a plan has plummeted since the character turned Nazi, and although Marvel will maintain that this return to classic Cap isn't a response to Secret Empire, we all know who this book is for - or rather, what it's meant to be.
