11 WTF Moments From The Suicide Squad

Unsurprisingly, crazy begets crazy.

By Vince Cicchino /

You wouldn€™t really expect a group called the Suicide Squad to be beloved by so many, but there€™s no denying that the idea of a team of supervillains who are forced to take on suicide missions for a shady government has struck a chord with many people. After the events of Crisis on Infinite Earths, writer John Ostrander took the original concept of the Suicide Squad (which began as merely a replacement for the Justice Society of America) and turned it into the far cooler modern incarnation that we know and love. The Suicide Squad was a refreshing idea that allowed Ostrander to make his own sandbox within the DC universe and treat the characters like action figures that he could happily stick in the microwave and not worry about being scolded by his editorial parents. The team has seen many changes and iterations over the years once other writers took the reins but the core concept has never changed. It€™s almost a way for creators to vent, as anyone being placed in the Squad is going to be considered fair game. It goes without saying that stories featuring a group of maladjusted mass-murderers would result in some pretty crazy moments so here€™s eleven WTF worthy moments from the history of the Suicide Squad.

Honourable Mention: The Cover Of Suicide Squad #40

Not a moment per say, but this cover deserves a mention because it looks like the art you see on those cheap, tacky love novels that collect dust in news agencies. Its blurb should read:
Tyrone is serving twenty-five to life in prison for a murder he did not commit. During his incarceration, he finds himself slowly falling for his cellmate and they begin a relationship. However, when Tyrone is informed that new evidence has been provided to help prove his innocence, he finds himself conflicted about his lustful feelings.
It all comes to a head on the night of the prison€™s annual Halloween party, where Tyrone will need to finally decide whether he can leave the relationship with his male lover behind him once he escapes the walls of confinement.
