Matt Murdock was famously blinded when he pushed an old man out of the path of a speeding truck carrying radioactive waste. But the story didn’t end there, at least if you ask Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird that is. Thus, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles were born.
The fact that both properties are owned by different companies means that this connection cannot be officially made canon. That doesn’t mean that it hasn’t been widely accepted as truth, however. The nods to Daredevil’s mythology are plentiful in the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’ universe. Whether it be their master Splinter being an obvious nod to Stick or the evil ninja clan being called The Foot as opposed to Daredevil’s The Hand.
Considering the level of fame that the Ninja Turtles would go on to develop, it’s impressive that such a pop culture behemoth essentially came out of a fun nod towards another comic.
