The Joker is a great villain - that is indisputable. But THE greatest? Come on. All too often the Clown Prince of Gotham and Batman's arch-nemesis appears at the top of those "greatest comic book villain" lists - and this is outright wrong for a variety of reasons. They're basing his placing on popularity and nothing more and, sure, he IS very popular - probably THE most popular comic book villain - but that doesn't make him the greatest. There are far more important factors, when it comes to naming someone the greatest at what they do, than popularity. Otherwise Cristiano Ronaldo would be one of the worst footballers in the world and David Beckham would be the best player who ever lived. Numerous villains can do everything the Joker can do and more - and that's putting it mildly. Despite what seems to be a common opinion, there isn't really a single aspect of the Joker's character that is the pinnacle of comic book examples.
