9 Storylines That Defined Popular Comic Book Characters

3. Superman - For All Seasons

While not quite the Man of Steel's origin story, For All Seasons is the story of Clark Kent's childhood and his first year as the Superman. As Kal is nearly omnipotent, it is almost peculiar to see him with such strong doubts on whether or not he is making a change with the work he is doing. Of course, he could provide free energy to everyone on the planet by flying while hooked up to a generator, but that doesn't make for a good comic book.

For All Seasons further defines Superman because of its unique narrators, all parts of Clark and Superman's lives in different ways. Seeing the Son of Krypton not as a reader of a thought bubble but as those who love or hate him explores the character in a previously unused angle.

There's something satisfying about seeing a superhero, an icon that we know as virtually invincible, put into a corner or a rut that they can't seem to escape. It defies all of our expectations, and when Superman realizes that the world does need him, it is made all the more climactic by his previous position.
