It's hard to sum up the impact that Batman: The Animated Series made using just words. The iconic show first arrived on our screens all the way back in September of 1992 and it didn't take long for it to make its presence felt.

With deep well-rounded characters and emotionally complex storylines, the show quickly set itself apart from everything else in its genre, pushing boundaries and the general limits of what animation was supposed to be capable of. Furthermore, it reinvigorated the Batman lore, gifting it with unique and original characters that were so cutting-edge, they were subsequently welcomed into the comics - characters such as Harley Quinn, Renee Montoya and the new almost Shakespearan version of Mr. Freeze.

Now, nearly three decades after the show's debut, it will finally make a comeback. As revealed by Entertainment Weekly, the Dark Knight's story grows in Batman: The Adventures Continue - a new six-issue DC Comics miniseries set within the world of the classic DC Animated Universe.

With that in mind - and the fact that the first issue arrives in April - here's everything you need to know about the comic book return of Batman: The Animated Series.

So it really does go without saying that these returning comics would need to produce something equally as strong.

Thankfully, fans won't have to worry about that because the show's original producers Paul Dini and Alan Burnett will be writing the new story. Fans will, of course, know that Dini, Burnett and Bruce Timm crafted some masterpieces together throughout the show's initial run, and even though Timm doesn't appear to be involved this time around, they can rest assured that the artwork will be amazing because its set to be illustrated by Ty Templeton - who illustrated the classic Animated Series comic tie-in The Batman Adventures.
