Serenity: No Power In The Verse - 5 Things That Must Happen

Serenity is back, and needs to finally give us some answer some burning questions.

In 2002, Firefly came and went in just a few short months, but the show found a second life when it was released on DVD. The demand for more led to feature film Serenity, which was designed to tie up some loose ends and give the series a needed farewell. But fans still couldn't be satiated with just the series and film.

Even now, the creators and cast are constantly asked when they will strap on their holsters again and return to Serenity. Listening to the demand, that question was answered. As with most Joss Whedon created projects, Serenity continued on in comic book form.

Comics may not be the ideal medium for fans of the TV show, but they are the best possible option. Given that 11 years have passed since Serenity, comics are the only way to keep the crew flying.

The current mini-series, Serenity: No Power in the Verse, is the second post-film comic. Fans of Firefly and Serenity have been clamoring for more original stories, and to have all of the unanswered questions from the original television series finally resolved. Given that it's unclear if and when this sporadically released comic series will continue, there are certain things fans need to have wrapped up.

5. Show The New Resistance

Following the events of the movie, a new resistance was formed, but we haven't seen much of what that looks like at this point. How does it compare to the war that happened before?

Serenity ended with a huge government secret being revealed. Throughout the course of the television series, we saw some characters that strongly supported the Alliance, but others that had a more tenuous relationship with the governing body. The crew of Serenity uncovered and transmitted a message, which revealed how the Alliance attempted to make an entire population sedated by unknowingly pumping chemicals into the air. When their plans spectacularly backfired, the Alliance attempted to permanently keep it under wraps.

With this knowledge out in the universe now, a new resistance against the Alliance has surfaced. Given that the main character in Firefly has actively rebelled before, viewers have an innate curiosity to see how this new resistance is different. Is it as large as the Independence army? Will it become a full scale rebellion? How will the crew of Serenity react to a new resistance that they are responsible for instigating?

Independence and rebellion are key aspects of this story. Given the involvement that Mal and his crew had in sparking the resistance, the story cannot leave them on the fringes of space for long. Both the crew and the readers need to see how this changed the verse.
