The Joker's 10 Most Sickeningly Twisted Moments

The Clown Prince Of Crime really is one sick individual.

Poor Batman. All those years of training, dedication and hard work. The tragedy of seeing his parents shot down dead before him as a child. Finally, after spending far too much time and money beating the snot out of gangsters, thugs and street toughs alike, you feel as though you're finally getting somewhere.

One day, you think (at least, if we're going by his work ethic in 'The Dark Knight') you might even be able to retire. Settle down, do the playboy billionaire thing for real. And then the rules change. Out come the freaks and weirdos - the green Riddle fetishising weirdos, the Two-Faced weirdos, the umbrella and monocle obsessed weirdos, the crazy cat lady weirdos and, most crucially - the Joker. You know, the crazy of all crazies - the one you might possibly have had a hand in creating by dropping into a vat of acid.

Created in 1940 by Jerry Robinson, Bill Finger and Bob Kane, the Joker has had a career as rich and varied as the Dark Knight himself, taking in dark sadism, goofy comedy-based japes, Caesar Romero and then, once the fascistic regulations by the Comics Authority had run their course, back to dark sadism again.

The Moriarty to Batman's Sherlock Holmes, of all the detective's iconic rogue's gallery, it's always been the Joker who has had the power to really get under Batman's cape. Whether it's murdering Batman's sidekicks, torturing his friends or simply terrorising the citizens of Gotham City, the Joker has done a lot over the years, in-between (and occasionally during) his little stays at Arkham Asylum.
