8. Iron Man: Iron Man Faces The Menace Of The Mad Pharaoh!
At number 8 we have our first story arc that deals with a return to the past. The comic sees Tony Stark travel to Egypt to join an old friend on an archeological dig. Using his powers as Iron Man to aid the exploration of a tomb, Stark uncovers a Pharaoh who has been in suspended animation for 2000 years to escape his enemies. The Pharaoh reveals that he plans to return to the past to battle and defeat his enemy there, who is revealed to be non other than Queen Cleopatra! He also demands that Iron Man travel back to help him be victorious in battle. This is a fun story arc and interesting because it sees Iron Man saving the day in an unfamiliar pre-technological setting. The story also demonstrates amazing self-restraint on Iron Mans part when he turns down an offer from Cleopatra to stay in ancient Egypt and rule at her side.
