Nikki is a space traveling pyrokinetic from 31st century Mercury. She came back in time and space to escape a cataclysm that claimed the lives of her people and joined up with the Guardians because they were the first ones to offer her a ride.

She's presumably still alive, but there's little if any chance of her coming back. Expect that to become a theme going forward.
