10 Action Movies That Prove Hollywood Hates You

4. Transformers: Age Of Extinction

Not to be confused with a meal in a fast food restaurant, Transformers 4 is another uniform product that emphasizes quantity over quality, though this time the packaging is slightly different. Shia LaBeouf isn’t famous anymore, so it’s Mark Wahlberg’s time to purchase a vehicle that turns out to be Optimus Prime, gawk in astonishment as it battles other Transformers and be pursued by a shadowy organization.

This leads to nearly three hours of robot mayhem that, if it built to something besides more fights or offered any dramatic tension, might’ve been bearable, but in the hands of master bungler Michael Bay it’s like watching the same cartoon on an endless loop, only with more product placement. In an attempt to deliver the most pimped-out movie of 2014, Bay stuffs his movie with ads for everything from Victoria’s Secret to Bud Light.

Speaking of crass commercialism, this must be the first summer blockbuster to so blatantly attempt to appeal to Chinese moviegoers (the largest audience outside the US). Not only does a portion of the film take place (for no good reason) in China, but the sight of Stanley Tucci holding Chinese products up to the camera is just wrong. Or maybe it was right, because Age Of Extinction was the biggest foreign hit of 2014 at the Chinese box office.
