10. Leonardo DiCaprio - Orphan (2009)

Though Leonardo DiCaprio is best known today for superb dramatic roles that somehow don't get him a Best Actor Oscar, his first film role was in the 1991 horror movie Critters 3. 

Perhaps because of that, DiCaprio began producing his own movies in 2004 through his Appian Way production company, but he has also produced some films that he hasn't appeared in. One of those movies is 2009's Orphan, a psychological horror film about a couple who adopt a murderous child. DiCaprio decided to produce Orphan after the script appeared on the annual Blacklist, a list of the best unmade scripts of the year.

The film was a solid success, grossing $78.4 million worldwide on a $20 million budget and grossing another $17 million in U.S. DVD and Blu-ray sales. DiCaprio later produced Red Riding Hood, a dark fantasy movie written by Orphan screenwriter David Leslie Johnson. Red Riding Hood was less successful with critics and audiences, but still profitable.
