10 Actors Who Play Multiple Roles In The MCU
Some Avengers assembled more than once.
The Marvel Cinematic Universe, or MCU, has grown larger than anyone could have possibly imagined. The sprawling multimedia franchise began with 2008's Iron Man, a fairly self-contained film which only sets up the possibility of a shared universe in its now iconic post credits scene, in which Nick Fury mentions "The Avengers Initiative." Since then, the MCU has grown to include 26 feature films, 4 Disney Plus shows, and a plethora of other TV series, including 6 Netflix originals and 2 direct spin-offs of the films.
With this year's Hawkeye and Spider-Man: No Way Home still to release, the MCU continues to grow exponentially. As such, the franchise has more characters than even super fans can name. Marvel Studios always casts the right actor for the role to bring these iconic comic book characters to life.
However, with just how many characters there are, some actors come back to the MCU to play more than one Marvel role. With just how big the MCU has become, this re-casting, much like Thanos, is inevitable. Here are ten actors who play multiple roles in the MCU.
This list will not feature actors who only reprise their MCU role as variants, such as Tom Hiddleston's President Loki or Chadwick Boseman's T'Challa Star-Lord, although those are technically multiple characters. This is because, with the sheer scale of What If...?, most MCU actors fit this category.
10. Paul Bettany
Paul Bettany has been in the MCU longer than almost any other actor. The English actor made his Marvel debut back in 2008's Iron Man, as the voice of Tony's robotic butler JARVIS.
However, JARVIS wouldn't be Bettany's only MCU role for long. Unlike other actors on this list, there is an in-universe justification for his dual-casting. In Avengers: Age of Ultron, the titular robotic villain appears to murder JARVIS. However, JARVIS is able to survive, and eventually fuses with a stolen Ultron body to become Vision. Vision says early on that he is not JARVIS, making Vision and JARVIS two distinctive roles.
Bettany has come a long way since voicing Tony Stark's help in 2008. He recently headlined his own Disney Plus series, Wandavision, for which he was nominated for an Emmy. Bettany, along with his Wandavision co-stars Elizabeth Olsen and Kathryn Hahn, is the first actor to receive that honour for their work in the MCU.
At the end of Wandavision, Vision promises Wanda that they'll see each other again. Hopefully, we won't have to wait too long.
