If there's any justice in the world, he will be an Oscar winner by the time Civil War comes around, giving the casting some serious clout. And that genuinely does matter: imagine seeing Spider-Man unmasked and it being an actor with a big profile rather than just a hot young thing - the idea of his decision being catastrophic as well as a romantic statement would matter an awful lot more. Pros He's certainly got the physique: clearly Spidey is never going to be a Tom Hardy-sized monster, and Redmayne has that helpful stringiness. Which is quite apart from the fact that he's genuinely a very good - and crucially, very diverse - actor. Cons He's not American, and there's still quite a bit of dissent levelled at the fact that the UK already has quite a few of the plumb American roles, what with Garfield, Henry Cavill and Billy Elliott all going transatlantic for comic book movies.
