10 Actors You Never Noticed In Movies
3. Kevin Durand - The Butterfly Effect
Kevin Durand is a terrific character actor surely best known for his roles on TV shows Lost and The Strain, as well as his performance as Blob in X-Men Origins: Wolverine.
But did you know that Durand had a supporting role in the Ashton Kutcher-starring sci-fi film The Butterfly Effect? Durand appears briefly as Carlos, Evan's (Kutcher) deeply religious prison cellmate.
What makes Durand so tough to spot is that, in a decision that surely wouldn't fly with audiences today, the white Canadian Durand is portraying a Latino man who honestly couldn't be much more of a "gangbanger" stereotype.
That's not to say that Durand's performance is bad, because it isn't, and you could argue that the quality of Durand's performance is precisely why his work here has flown under the radar for so long.
But at the same time, it's the sort of casting choice that's sure to make a lot of people wince in retrospect, especially as there's no real narrative reason that Carlos has to be Latino while being played by Durand.
