It's safe to say while interest in a new Supergirl series was reasonably high, it wasn't something the planet was crying out for. And when Melissa Benoist hit the headlines as the skirted Kryptonian there followed a distinct mood of "wait and see". She didn't have the distracting, statuesque proportions of Smallville's Laura Vandervoort, which some would see as a good thing. Yet at the same time she maybe possessed too much of the regular girl vibe that could nix an attempt to present her as super-powerful. Thankfully when the show arrived Benoist was a delight, showing that when it comes to costumed antics, personality is worth its weight in gold-coated Kryptonite, far more than Playboy-esque looks and keeping the fanboys drooling for forty-five minutes a week.
