There are very few people who would ever admit to not liking this movie (I am not a massive fan if I am honest with you) and there are even fewer people who would admit to not having seen this movie... so even if people didn't get this reference at the fancy dress party you are at, after you told them they would probably pretend that they knew. The Godfather is a very critically acclaimed film and is hugely popular with film fans so this would sure to go down a treat. It would actually also be an easier costume to pull off. How I imagine this costume working would be to either create or buy a toy horses head (you could pull one off of a children Hobby Horse toy), then sew it to your pajamas, cover yourself in pints of fake blood then wrap a bed cover over yourself. Walk around the Halloween party hiding the horses head and the blood from view until people asked you what you were meant to be... then flash them underneath the covers to reveal the horses head covered in lots and lots of blood. The people that immediately got the reference would probably love it (especially if you have geeky friends) and those that didn't would probably be suitably creeped out by the costume anyway. Considering The Godfather is not even almost a scary movie... this scene actually frightened me and I am sure this costume would frighten a lot of people- especially those who have decided to put glitter on their faces and go as a sexy vampire from Twilight. This is a much cooler and much more surreal costume idea.
