10 Amazing Actresses Hollywood Don't Know What To Do With

2. Maggie Gyllenhaal

Just where the hell has Maggie Gyllenhaal been since The Dark Knight happened in 2008? Her brother, Jake Gyllenhaal €“ another male actor with the power to greenlight any film he ever feels like €“ is currently on a mini-career revival, following up the disappointing likes of Prince of Persia and Love & Other Drugs with his hugely impressive Denis Villeneuve collaborations. It's the kind of second chance any actress, including Jake's sister Maggie, would find almost impossible to get. Sure, Maggie Gyllenhaal's made some movies since The Dark Knight (in which, it must be said, she was largely just required to die), but support in Nanny McPhee Returns and White House Down hardly matches her capabilities. Gyllenhaal is, by all accounts, the best thing in the upcoming Michael Fassbender musical drama Frank, and anyone who saw 2006's Sherrybaby €“ the only time Gyllenhaal's truly had a lead role to date, bar perhaps Secretary €“ will attest to her enormous power when actually given something to work with.
