10 Amazing Movies You Probably Haven't Seen (And Why)

10. Moon

Why You Probably Haven't Seen It: Sam Rockwell has made a habit of appearing in movies that fly so far under the radar even his own mother probably doesn't know they're being released.

Moon definitely qualifies as one of those, pulling in just over $130,000 in its opening weekend, remaining one of the best kept science fiction secrets of the 2000s.

Why You Should: Moon is reminiscent of other iconic sci-fi films without being wholly derivative, bringing to mind bits and pieces of Solaris, Silent Running, Blade Runner, and even 2001: A Space Odyssey, depending on which act you're watching.

This is a deep, thoughtful, rich movie about loneliness and deception that just so happens to take place way up among the stars. Set on a moon base where Sam's mining precious moon gas to alleviate Earth's energy crisis, Rockwell is nearly a one-man show, depicting a quirky, snarky, oftentimes hilarious descent into madness from being left with no one but a sarcastic sounding robot voiced by Kevin Spacey.

And while it's highly entertaining to watch Rockwell interact with an updated version of HAL 9000, things do get pretty dark. And that's when things start to get really interesting.
