This is a whole spectrum of folk. I know some ladies on the more elderly side that audibly hiss when they hear a curse word. I know some people who can't contain themselves when something exciting happens on screen, and show that with a "Whaaaaaat?" that isn't a yell, but an exclamation ignorant of other viewers. It's something that often happens during the twists of a film, or if our suspension of disbelief gets reeled in in contrast to what we've been seeing. A lot of people aren't really aware that they're doing it, and pointing it out embarrasses them. It's one of those things that you might just have to suck up and take, because confronting it is going to be more awkward than beneficial. They could get very offended and say you're out of line. It's not really someone I have a "solution" for. They're being attentive to the picture, and my pointing out their "rudeness" to the rest of the theater won't be a quick-fix to their social unawareness. It's annoying, yes. But it's more forgivable than a few other entries on the list.
