10 Awesome Comic Book Movie Moments When Characters Received Power-Ups

10. Winter Soldier

In Captain America: The First Avenger he was Bucky Barnes, an ordinary soldier who had joined Cap€™s elite team in a bid to defeat the evil forces of Hitler and Hydra. Fast-forward a couple of decades and he is a metallic armed assassin created and controlled by Hydra through brainwashing. Although this is an origins story, it is one that is far from ordinary; Bucky was a sidekick in The First Avenger, he was included to prevent Captain America from being a one dimensional character. He gave depth to the titular character, meaning we did not have to wait through a sequence showing how utterly alone and weak pre-serum Cap was. The Terminator-like villain in the sequel was far more powerful than the original character; he was able to realistically threaten Captain America, Black Widow and Falcon. This Soviet led power-boost made The Winter Soldier the perfect nemesis for Captain America as there was the personal dilemma involved in fighting with a beloved friend, as well as the immense power of the metallic enemy; catching Cap€™s shield made clear that The Winter Soldier meant business, and it is hard to deny that Bucky received a massive power-up in the process of becoming the biggest antagonist to Captain America in this century.
