Michael Sheen is the single, solitary actor in the Twilight films who actually seems in on the joke; he knows that he's making a crap series of paycheque roles - mainly to please his daughter, by his own admission - and simply has fun with it. The result is the actor becoming the rare, hammy bright spot in these otherwise execrable films; playing Aro, the leader of the Volturi and Big Bad of the franchise, he gets to prance around, cackle and deliver lines in a deliciously exaggerated mode. Sheen provides the only light relief for boyfriends dragged along to watch this tosh, mocking the whole shebang in a faintly passive-aggressive way, in that he doesn't quite derail things, but reminds us (as if we could forget) that we're watching poorly-written mulch. Sheen gets to rip the piss out of it while getting paid and earning the admiration of unfortunate boyfriends the world over.
