This is an accurate definition for overkill in my book - the ability to destroy an enemy or a target with more force than necessary, often to the point of silliness. Nowadays, a jaded audience - 'too much blood, too much gore, too much violence' - would tend to say less is more whenever they have the chance. But I believe cinema is a medium of excess above all and for every Bergman, there is a John Woo. To portray death in particular, there are times where truly 'more is more'. Especially in horror and action films - where dying is a commonplace activity. Some characters even excel at it, and when they go, their death is so over-the-top - whether or not on purpose - that you could forget the entire film you are watching and still remember their departure.
