8. The Battle Of Hattin - Kingdom Of Heaven

The Battle of Hattin is notorious in The Crusades as an epic disaster of (ironically) biblical proportions. It saw a horse-based Crusader army waltz off into the desert rather than protect the Kingdom Of Jerusalem, only to be chopped down by the much-better-suited camel-armies of Saladin. As a direct consequence of this act, the Saracens were able to take Jerusalem and other major strongholds, leaving the Christian presence in the region greatly diminished. We're told a lot about this disaster in Kingdom Of Heaven, but that's just it €“ told. Bailian Of Ibelin €“ played by Orlando Bloom in all his wooden glory €“ tells all who care to listen that meeting Saladin at Hattin would be a disaster. Maybe because he can't emote enough, they ignore him and ride off into a slaughter. Sadly, we only ever get to see the aftermath of the whole escapade, and I think that's a shame. It robs us of the opportunity to see the true of idiocy of Jerusalem's sh*t-kicking heels, and though Ridley Scott makes it up to us with a tremendous siege of Jerusalem, I still would've lived to see some arrogant gits get their arses handed to them. But hell, I guess even within an immense director's cut, Scott had to draw the line somewhere.
