10 Awful 2019 Horror Movies To Avoid This Halloween
5. Doom: Annihilation
With the success of the 2016 Doom video game, Universal agreed to greenlight a new movie based on the hit franchise, hoping to renew cinematic interest in the IP after 2005's Dwayne Johnson-starring dud flopped with audiences and critics.
Except, Universal decided to give the film a miniscule budget, fill it with unknown actors and release it direct-to-VOD, such that most fans of the video games probably aren't even aware that it's actually been released.
With all the visual flair of a SyFy Original, Doom: Annihilation is a cheap, tacky dumpster fire of a video game adaptation, shot in limited locations with a poor cast and what appears to be only the faintest scraps of an actual script.
It's a film so uniformly terrible even the official Doom Twitter account rubbished it, and if Universal really wanted to expand the Doom brand, you have to wonder who seriously thought this was the way to go.
Even hardcore fans shouldn't waste their time with this dreck, because without the Doom label, it's just another forgettable VOD sci-fi horror dud.
