10 Awful Movies That Wasted Awesome Ensemble Casts

By T.J. Barnard /

There are certain hotshots in Hollywood who seem to think it's as easy as throwing together some of the biggest names around, handing them a random script, and hoping that their combined natural talents will pull them through, because surely so many great actors can't fail if they're all shoe-horned into one movie together, right? Wrong! It happens a lot: great ensemble casts are packed into flicks that are eventually shipped into theatres lacking the quality of even one of the stars involved. Point is, Hollywood stars can make movies great, but at the same time, you can't make a great movie if you don't have the rest of the ingredients in the pot. In the cases of the 10 movies I've assembled here, Hollywood managed to gather together some truly impressive and sometimes mind-blowing ensemble casts, only to forget that they needed to gather up either a great director or a great script at the same time (both would have been nice). Looking back on these relative "failures" (some of them still made a killing at the box office), the only feeling I can really muster up is that of sheer disappointment. And betrayal. Lots of that, too. It's not that these movies had to be great or anything, but c'mon... the cast deserved so much better. And so did we, for that matter.
