Rumour has it that Nicolas Cage once won an Academy Award for Best Actor, but recalling some of his recent efforts – The Wicker Man remake or Bangkok Dangerous, anybody? – you’d be forgiven for thinking that Oscar win was the stuff of Hollywood lore. So with that in mind, we aren’t too hopeful for his latest offering to cinemagoers, Mom and Dad.

Starring Cage and Selma Blair as the titular parental unit and written and directed by Brian Taylor – who last teamed with Cage in the universally panned Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance – the film pits generation against generation when some unknown mass hysteria suddenly compels parents to murder their offspring.

Though there’s something to be said for horrors that subvert characters usually deemed non-scary be it normally nurturing parents, innocent kids or harmless old ladies, with Cage on board Mom and Dad is bound to be as hammy as a hog roast rather than anything vaguely horrific.
