10. Amityville: The Awakening

Dimension Films

The release of Amityville: The Awakening next year will herald the eighteenth film in the much hackneyed Amityville film series. Since its first outing in 1979, the franchise has reached new levels of mediocrity with sequels veering beyond the haunted house premise into ridiculous territory including, but by no means limited to, a possessed floor lamp (Amityville 4: The Evil Escapes) and a cursed dollhouse (Amityville Dollhouse, aptly).

So quite why any director would deem the series a dead horse worth flogging is beyond anyone’s grasp, but French filmmaker Franck Khalfoun is giving it a go regardless.

In production in some form or another since 2011, the not-so-hotly anticipated movie has so far undergone a complete rewrite, reshoots and several release date push backs before finally being scheduled for a dump month release in early January – more often than not a death knell for a movie – and looks to be about as scary as its 17 predecessors.

So not very scary at all then.
