10 Best 80s Horror Movies You Probably Haven't Seen

5. Halloween III: Season Of The Witch

One of the most underestimated horror films - not just of the 80s, but of all time - is the third film in the Halloween franchise, Season of the Witch.

The film effectively abandons the Michael Myers murders storyline of the first two films, instead focusing on a more sci-fi/ fantasy orientated plot about some malevolent Halloween masks that have the power to wipe out all the kids in America.

This instalment was an attempt to turn the franchise into an anthology series, with a new, different story for each film, with the only recurrent being that it will be set on Halloween night. It sounds like a great idea, but one that unfortunately didn’t pan out.

This was because the film we got was unfairly panned on release, criticised for Myers’ absence and the lack of slasher thrills. Over time, however, it has really shown itself to be a real misunderstood, undervalued gem.

A daring and fun experiment, the film feels like an extended episode of the Twilight Zone, with added dashes of Doctor Who, The X Files and a bit of The Stepford Wives thrown in.

Oftentimes, horror sequels are not so great, but this one is definitely worth a look.
