While many Mad Max fans had lost hope that George Miller might actually direct another sequel to his much-loved franchise, the director had stated continuously that Mad Max: Fury Road was in-development and would blow people's minds. While directors aren't afraid to toot their own horn, Miller certainly wasn't kidding with his declaration as Fury Road turned out to the sort of action movie that will left audiences exhausted.

While the film stars Tom Hardy as the slightly insane, yet honourable Max Rockatansky, the true driving force of this movie is Charlize Theron's Imperator Furiosa. If you thought her exceptional job as Lorraine Broughton in Atomic Blonde deserved plaudits, then she should go down in badass history for what she did as Furiosa.

Her character is a mixture of Ripley from Alien and Letty Ortiz from The Fast and the Furious if they were placed in a dystopian future. She's demanding, wily, smart and willing to do anything to get save five women who are used as baby makers for the film's villain, Immortan Joe.

Mad Max might've seen like a franchise that was dead and gone to most people. However, Miller was not only able to resurrect it, he managed to improve upon it in a significant way.
