Now that the dust has well and truly settled on Avengers: Infinity War, audiences are inevitably counting the days until the release of the second half of the story, the still-as-of-yet-untitled Avengers 4.

It was teased over and over again for years the Infinity War would be the culmination of the franchise, but few could have predicted just how many threads it would leave viewers dangling with. The film saw Thanos make his grand entrance and well-and-truly wreck the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe, leaving it in a state of disrepair when those somber credits rolled.

With so many heroes dead, the universe in utter shambles, and Thanos getting to live out his happily-ever-after, the remaining Avengers are going to have a lot on their plate come May of 2019. With such an ambitious jumping off point, so many characters, and so many decades worth of comic book storylines, the possibilities for Avengers 4 are endless. For all we know, it could wind up being a quaint romantic comedy between Thor and Rocket.

But of the possibilities, these are the most convincing theories so far or as to what audiences might see when they step into the theater for Avengers 4.

10. The Bonus Stone

Now that Thanos has collected all six of the infinity stones, the only way for the heroes to beat him may just be to discover a bonus stone.

Several times through the comics, when a villain would assemble the stones, The Avengers would have to turn to using one of the bonus stones in order to defeat them. The most commonly used one is the ego stone.

In the MCU, The Collector informed audiences that the infinity stones were forged during the Big Bang and that's why they have such power. But in the comics, the stones were the creation of Nemesis. She was an all-powerful god-like celestial who grew tired of her existence and split up her power between six infinity stones.

Then, she put herself inside of the seventh one. This seventh stone was known as the ego stone. She hid it away in an unknown realm known as the Ultraverse, but decreed that should all seven stones ever be reunited, she would be summoned back to life.

So, all the Avengers have to do to take away Thanos' stones is to find the ego stone and reunite it with the others. It would stop Thanos and release Nemesis. But with a name like Nemesis, that doesn't exactly sound like the safest option either.
