10 Best Buddy Cop Movies Of All Time

2. The Heat

An unfortunate stereotype of thrillers usually sees the female roles as either bedroom or background figures. The Heat throws out the normal rules and sees Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy teaming up to take on a massive drug cartel.

The film managed to play to the strengths of McCarthy and Bullock at the same time to appeal to a much wider audience. The Heat might be following the usual 'good cop/rubbish cop' routine from all buddy cop movies but managed to stand above the rest.

Whilst there is plenty of action, it is the humour of the film - including a literal use of ‘throw the book at him’ - which really makes this film worth your time. Although director Paul Feig couldn’t pull off the same trick with Ghostbusters, he has a knack for taking male-centred ideas and giving the XX chromosomes the stage. It was this idea that really put The Heat on the map - switching the usual 'tough guy' roles for women who know the way things should be done and then actually getting them done.
