10 Best (Canon) Star Wars Novels Every Fan Must Read

2. Thrawn

Timothy Zahn is known throughout the fandom as the father of the Star Wars EU. A title he completely earns by being the first writer ever hired to make tie in novels to the Star Wars movies. So of course Del Rey brought him back to write a new novel starring one of the all time best Star Wars villains - Thrawn.

Thrawn tells the story of how our favorite Grand Admiral got to the position that he did in the notoriously alien hating Galactic Empire. We see Thrawn overcome systemic racism and make allies wherever he can, and we even find out why someone as intelligent as him would even join the Empire to begin with. As it turns out, there's a very big, very dangerous army on the outer rim that can give even the Chiss Ascendancy and the Galactic Empire some trouble if they aren't quelled. So Thrawn sees the Empire as the only means of protecting the galaxy from such threats.

Thrawn is a fascinating story about one of the Star Wars universe's most fascinating characters, and highly recommended to any book lovers in this fandom.
