This oft forgotten Holiday classic features Dennis Leary as a down-on-his-luck burglar trapped in a small town after a botched robbery. After taking a family hostage, he learns they're the most dysfunctional family unit this side of the Manson Family - only the Manson Family might have loved one another more. Pretending to be a marriage counsellor for husband Gus Chasseur and wife Caroline (played by Kevin Spacey and Judy Davis), "Gus" bumbles his way through dodging the local police while bringing the true meaning of the holidays home to the Chasseur family. On top of that, he winds up as an unlikely role model to the pair's son, Jesse - who spends his free time at military school blackmailing his superior with doctored photos of a rather explicit nature. Mix in a drunken neighbour dressed up as Santa, a lowlife sidekick terrified of winding up back in the slammer, and the most inept police force since the Keystone Cops, and you've got a recipe for success, with some slipper socks thrown in as stocking stuffers.
