10 Best Crime Films Of All Time

By Sam Heard /

9. Seven (1995)

The Crime? In this gloriously dark detective-thriller, detectives David Mills (Brad Pitt) and William Somerset (Morgan Freeman) draw the short straw in their Californian police department to lead the investigation on a new serial killer in town, who kills a new victim every day of the week for one of the seven deadly sins. Examples of these fatal crimes include the force-feeding of an obese gentleman for greed, the brutal mutilation of a model for pride and we€™re not even going to bother going into lust... The serial killer always proves to be one step ahead of the detectives as the final €œwhats-in-the-box€ sequence indicates. Why Is It Great? Seven is one of those films which horrifies you but which you can€™t avert your eyes from. The partnership of Morgan Freeman€™s cerebral veteran cop versus the hot-headed Brad Pitt may be a little cliché but lends itself to a few laughs amid all the horror of the crimes on screen. David Fincher€™s superb thriller combines gritty, grimy visuals with an unpredictable narrative to make sure people will continue to come back to Se7en for a long time.
