10 Best Documentarians In Found Footage Films

By Peter Turner /

9. David Leigh (The Last Broadcast)

FFM ProductionsUnlike Micah, David Leigh is a professional documentary filmmaker. He is a sombre and sobering on-screen presence who sets out to make a documentary about the Jersey Devil Murders. In The Last Broadcast, his aim is to figure out exactly what happened to the presenters of internet and cable TV show €˜Fact or Fiction€™ when they went into the woods to investigate the legend of the Jersey Devil and never returned. Leigh has pieced together archive footage and collected a range of interviewees to tell the story. However, what makes Leigh really interesting, and so deserving of a place on this list, is his ulterior motive. Spoiler alert: it turns out that Leigh is the man behind the murders in the woods! When a woman who is helping him to identify what is on one of the tapes manages to make out a face, Leigh ends his documentary by attacking and killing her. Why he would set out to make a documentary about the killings that he is responsible for is anyone€™s guess, but fair play to him for being that gutsy/stupid. The last minute murder certainly livens up what is quite a boring documentary.
