10. Barty Crouch Sr.

One of the most interesting dynamics in the Potter series was the connection between Hogwarts and the Ministry of Magic.

Seeing the governmental system force its practices on the more enlightened school always caused some exciting conflicts, and Barty Crouch Senior's role in Goblet of Fire was a great example of this.

This figure arrived as a representative for the Ministry in the Tri-Wizards Cup and brought plenty of concern for procedure and tradition with him. Ultimately, his attempts to keep everything in order only served to confuse the tournament more, and his ruthless past became a significant factor within the plot.

In addition to the character's interesting place in the movie, he was played wonderfully by the late great Roger Lloyd Pack, who gave the role an overtly serious yet comical tone, thanks to his stubbornness and inability to go against the rules.

The character's death was a little disappointing, as it never got a full reveal. In the books he's killed at the hands of his son and the movie alludes to this, but doesn't give a full explanation. It's unfortunate that he went out in such a lacklustre way, but at least fans could enjoy him before his demise.
