4. The Interview - Longlegs

Despite being a dramatic Oscar-winning star, Nicolas Cage is renowned for his larger-than-life performances.

After portraying a plethora of crazed characters throughout his career, the Face/Off actor's shtick could become tiresome. However, Cage gave the performance of a lifetime in Osgood Perkin's Longlegs, where he portrays Devil worshipper Dale Kobble.

Cage's over-the-top antics are in full swing straight away, with his character maniacally screaming and singing in his early scenes. Making the character even more intriguing, Kobble's face is obscured for the first half of the film. It's only when he's arrested that Longlegs gives a clear shot of Kobble, highlighting that his face has been left heavily disfigured by botched plastic surgery.

While being interviewed by the police, Kobble has a mesmerising meltdown, tearfully singing Happy Birthday, yelling expletives, and sickly smooching to the camera while praising Satan. Just when it feels like things couldn't get more surreal, Kobble smashes his face into the table, caving his skull in.

What makes this scene more thought-provoking is how Kobble doles out a bunch of crucial exposition, even if it's easy to dismiss everything he says as gibberish since his manner is utterly deranged. For this reason, the interview is worth revisiting after watching Longlegs in its entirety, as it proves Kobble was giving the game away without anyone noticing.
