10 Best Horror Movies Of The Decade

5. The Conjuring (2013)

Arguably one of, if not THE movie that re-inspired a new wave of serious horror to start taking over cinemas again, The Conjuring universe is James Wan's gift to the world for both genre die-hards and casual cinema-goers alike.

Bringing the best of Wan's sensibility for all things spooky alongside the spicy flavours of 'based on a true story', The Conjuring is a legit chilling experience that features a malevolent spirit bothering the Perron family in their new home - resulting in them calling up the real-life ghostbusters Ed and Lorraine Warren for some help facing their demons.

The Warrens have had many of their infamous case files bought to the screen over the years, but The Conjuring seems to breathe new, terrifying life into them, telling their true tales with a renewed sense of urgency. It's hard to play horror movies entirely straight, and even more so when attempting to deliver scares on a blockbuster scale - but try telling that to Wan.

The Conjuring is a masterwork of tight scares without relying too heavily on jumps, and was a foundation block for this decades horror movies to continually build upon.
