Mike Nichols passed away suddenly on November 19th at the age of 83. Born Mikhail Igor Peschkowsky in 1931 Berlin, he moved to the United States at the age of seven following the outbreak of World War II. His family settled in New York City, where he studied under Lee Strasberg at the famed Actor€™s Studio. By the mid-1960s, Nicholas was one of the most in-demand theatrical directors in America, and quickly answered the siren call of Hollywood. Over the past sixty odd years, he has become an incredibly celebrated director, and leaves behind a legacy of tremendously influential work. Nichols is a member of the extremely exclusive club of EGOT winners €“ that is to say, people who have won an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony. As of right now, the EGOT club boasts only twelve artists, six of whom are still alive. Over the years, he has experimented with several different mediums, and excelled at each in a way that few other directors can claim. His death is a great loss to the entire entertainment industry €“ Hollywood, the West End, and Broadway alike. But now that he€™s gone, it€™s time to celebrate all of the remarkable work that he has left behind for us to enjoy for years to come.
