9. Lee Sacrifices Himself - A Quiet Place
In the sacrificial death stakes, nobody had A Quiet Place's Lee Abbott (John Krasinski) beat this year.

In the film's climax, his children are being stalked by the extraterrestrial creatures, and so in order to draw their attention, he screams loudly, but not before signing to his kids that he loves them.
The monster then leaps towards Lee, mauling him to death and giving his kids an opportunity to escape.

It wasn't terribly surprising that Lee didn't make it to the finish line, but he went out in a ballsy, bada** fashion while reinforcing the movie's key theme - survival of the family unit at all costs.
